Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday accused Republicans of endangering national security, flipping a traditional GOP line of attack.

In a floor speech, Reid accused Senate Republicans of making the nation more vulnerable to attack by blocking nominees to key security posts.

Important intelligence posts were empty when Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian terrorist, attempted to bomb a Detroit-bound jetliner on Christmas Day, Reid said.

“When he tried to blow up that plane, the top positions of both intelligence agencies within the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security were empty. Why? Because Republican senators refuse to let this body hold a vote on these highly capable people the president has asked to serve in these roles,” Reid said.

Reid also noted that Republicans had prevented the Senate from confirming a permanent boss at the Transportation Security Administration, the agency in charge of airline safety.

National security has typically been a political advantage for Republicans, who have scored many victories over the years by accusing Democrats of being soft on defense.

But in a flash of political jujitsu, Reid threw the charge at Republicans, accusing them of placing politics above security.

Reid highlighted four national-security positions that have remained vacant because of Senate GOP objections:
·     The undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, the No. 3 job at the Pentagon.
·     The assistant secretary of State for Intelligence and Research, the head of State’s intelligence operation.
·     The undersecretary of Homeland Security for Intelligence and Analysis.
·     The U.S. representative to the Conference on Disarmament, who is tasked with promoting the control of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

“We all know Republicans have dedicated themselves to grinding government to a halt,” Reid said.

“It’s why they have wasted countless hours and shattered remarkable records for stubbornness,” he added. “It’s why, when we have faced questions of national security, they have answered with politics.”

Republicans countered by arguing that Reid himself has played politics with national security. One GOP source pointed to a statement Reid made to reporters in April of 2007 when he observed that voter discontent over the war in Iraq would result in big Democratic electoral gains.

“We are going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war,” Reid told The Washington Post.

My Opinion:

Well I knew Harry Reid would start attacking Republicans over something. The reason Republicans are mad about the Underwear Bomber is Because He was read his Rights and We need Intel about the Yemen Terror Group . All Harry Reid can do is Score Political Points by Talking About Obama Appointments. Why Can’t our Country Be Bipartisan on Terror?

WASHINGTON—Democrats are exploring ways to counter a Supreme Court ruling that threw out a century of limits on corporate political spending, hoping it will hand them a populist issue to stem a Republican tide rising on public anger.

President Barack Obama devoted his weekly address to the decision, calling it a victory for “special interests and their lobbyists.” He cited “one of the great Republican presidents, Teddy Roosevelt,” who “warned of the impact of unbridled, corporate spending” on elections.

Possible legislation includes requiring corporations to obtain shareholder approval before funding political advertisements and blocking companies from deducting election spending as a business expense on their taxes.

Another proposal, borrowed from existing rules for political candidates, is requiring “the CEO of the corporation to make a declaration at the end of an ad saying, ‘I’m the CEO of X Corp. and I approved this ad,’ ” said Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D., Md.), who heads the House Democrats’ campaign committee.

On Thursday, justices split 5-4 along their ideological divide to grant corporations and unions the right to make unlimited expenditures promoting or attacking candidates.

Democrats had anticipated the Supreme Court’s decision for months, and quickly rolled out both political rhetoric and legislative proposals.

Friday, White House Special Counsel Norman Eisen met to discuss options with aides to Mr. Van Hollen and Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.), as well as Justice Department staff and Fred Wertheimer, a longtime activist on campaign-finance issues, officials said.

Mr. Van Hollen said Democrats also are weighing an effort to bar companies that received federal bailouts and big government contractors from electioneering, similar to rules affecting federal employees.

My Opinion: I think some companies have A right to Pay for Campaigns but on the other hand I agree with the Democrats on this one.  Let’s put this at a local Level Energy Solutions Can Pick A Candidate that will support Radioactive waste going into Utah. and attack any Candidate going against them (I.E. Jim Matheson or Peter Corroon).  I think This is a plan by Republicans to Make Corporations have a lot of say. and thats just Unfair.

For all of you who want a public option? There are some of Us (like me) who don’t want the federal government running the whole thing!!!! If Obama want’s to rush this threw he can but I think the public option should be held off till. people like me feel comfortable about it. and or the angry conservative robot, zombies ( as house speaker pelosi calls them). learn that health reform may be good for them.
The thing is you need to convince everyone a federally run public option is good for them, Including the small government democrats (like me) and the conservative robot zombies (like Glenn Beck).

We know every year MTV does a movie award show for the Young Peeps (who won’t watch the Academy Awards), To show support for there favorite movie.

and here are The Winners for 09.

Cinama blend has A better Story on This

Breakthrough Actress: Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical 3) (They Panned over to Vanessa Hudgens and she looked Pissed)

Best Fight: Twilight (Really!)

Breakthough Actor: Robert Pattinson (Twilight) As you can guess Mtv is showing who it’s viewers are.

Best Male Performance: Zac Efron (High School Musical 3)

Best Kiss: Twilight (Again)

WTF Award: Amy Poehler (Baby Mama) The Staff Member At Cinama Blend is mad that Jason Segel did not get it for his flashing scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Best Song: Miley Cyrus (Hanna Montana Movie). Paramore (Twilight) Lost to this you have got to be kidding me.

Mtv Generation Award: Ben Stiller.

Best Female Performance: Kristen Stewart (Twilight) The whole night she looks like she’s been high on something or getting it on with someone backstage. To prove it she drops her award.

Best Comedic Performance: Jim Carrey (Yes Man) one of the only two good choices of the night.

Best Villain: Heath Ledger (The dark Night) the other good choice but the award is pushed aside as an announcement because Heath is no longer with us.

Best Movie: who Wins it: The Dark Knight No, Iron Man No, Slum Dog Millionaire at least No. Who Win’s Twilight Again!!!!!!!!

As you Can tell you know who MTV’s Target Demographic is. I like Twilight! just it’s target is young Women which I don’t fit into Because I’m a Guy, and Why have a bunch of Disney Flix targeted at Girl’s win. In my mind I know why the Award show Turned out this way. Shows like the hill’s, Paris Hilton BFF, and a bunch of dating shows are MTV’s Flag Ship and Highest Rated Shows. MTV lost it’s male viewers when Jacka$$, Wildboys, Viva La Bam, and Even Bevous and Butthead left the network. They are trying to get back there male Viewers with shows like this Library Prank Show and Dj and the Fro (which is like Bevous and butthead but more geeky). But I know those shows won’t last, I blame Spike Tv and Mtv’s Removal of Music Videos for this But Whatever. just Wait Mtv will bring someone from the CW to do there Programing, and we all Know the CW is the Tv network for teen sob operas.

Well I also say to Guy’s Get off your X-box and Help me save MTV from Becoming the Cable Equivalent of the CW.
